I have an ipod shuffle and I used it to cut my grass alot. Well I take my shirt off while cutting the grass, well sweat got into my ipod shuffle and now it won't turn on, BUT heres the weird thing. I can still use it as a usb storage device. I can even use it on vista for ReadyBoost. just thought it was weird. any thoughts on why it won't turn on itself but windows detects it and can use it.

haha I read that first line and thought you meant you use the ipod to cut the grass, like literally, not listen to it while your using a mower
Try reinstalling the ipod software, always seems to do the trick.

hmm it wont play music anymore
probably sweat got into the components
sweat contains salt which, if i can remember from 4 yrs ago science class speeds up rusting... or stops it... hmm
not sure on how to fix it
there is a way to clean it, by taking the battery out then washing it in water, sounds crazy but ppl do it to motherboards apparently

either that or get it replaced or repaired by apple

oh yeah, I definatly know that sweat got into it, I pulled the on/off button off and looked inside and I can see the salt buildup. I just thought it was weird that it won't turn on or play music but I can still use it as a storage device on windows. don't really care to fix it, unless there was an easy fix, lol it's $70 bucks or probably cheaper now.

Sounds pretty simple - the corrosion has broken the power connection from the internal battery. When connected via USB as an external storage device, it's not trying to get it's power from the battery, so it can still work.
If the corrosion is on visible connections, over-soldering may fix it, at least temporarily.
