I may need a new computer any and all advice is welcomed.

I don't watch on line movies or even listen to much music on line. I mainly do e-mail and visit home boards. I don't need all the bell and whistles that many computers have that add to the costs of computers.

I would like a flat screen monitor that saves space, is that what they are called??? I would like at least a 15-17 inch that is easy on the eyes that won't strain my eyes.I do have printer and scanner that have to be hooked up.

A basic desktop is all I need and I have dialup.Looking for on line deal and I don't want to sign up for any services for a good deal.
Thanks

1. what is your budget?
2. Dial up is slow and ADSL is much better, today it comes are a fairly cheap price

will you play games, deal with photo editing, video editing or sound editing on this computer?

LCD screens are, today 17"+, 15" models are harder to find and are around the same price as 17" models so not really worth it

I have several friends who own this monitor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824254005), and they absolutely love it. 19 inches of widescreen glory, baby!

If you're on a tight budget, I recommend a pentium d 805 proc. They're the cheapest dual-core option, for sure.

Got one also. Love it as well. Only paid 159 for it though.

id rather go for AMD Athlon X2 offerings
might not be as cheap as the Pentium D
but its holds better value

no, games, deal with photo editing, video editing or sound editing ,what sites have the best deals on computers that are basic but reliable? I have to keep dialup at this time.

My budget permits between 450.00 and 500.00

I will check into that monitor and thanks

It's nearly a $50 dollar difference.. and, if he gets a halfway decent motherboard he could always throw in a core 2 duo chip when money permits.
