Fake CD drive
I looking for a program that will let me copy a cd to my hard drive so that each time I run the program it will access the program on the hd instead of having to load the cd.
I've heard of some out there but hopefully there is someone on this forum using one with confidence. I hate experimenting with shareware/freeware, always a dangerous proposition. And I am willing to actually purchase the program if it will do the job. Thanks. |

I'm kind of confused as to what exactly your trying to accomplish.
I'm guessing that you have a cd with a program "installed" on the cd itself...and that it's 'not' just a cd with a program on it that you can just simply install on your computer. (hence the reason why your trying to find a program that will copy the cd image to your hard drive...is that right?) (Further more, if the program is literally installed on the cd, you won't be able to find the installer...ofcourse if you could, then all you would have to do is use the program's installer and change the program's install path to your C:\ drive instead of D:\...eliminating the need to use the cd to "load the program.") Just to make sure I don't sound confusing in return (and so that I can understand better what it is your trying to do), I'll try to paint a mental picture for you. (In no way am I trying to insult your intelligence.) Think of your Operating System's (or something like Roxio EZCD Creator) installation cd...the Operating System is not actually 'installed' on the cd, but rather, the cd just serves as storage medium for when you decide to install/reinstall it on your computer's hard drive. So, I'm guessing that this program your wanting to copy from cd to your HDD 'is' actually 'installed' on the cd itself...meaning, the only way you can run this program is by running it off the cd...it's that correct? **Can you give a few details to make it a little more clear; 1. What program that it is... 2. If it's a game or some other application... 3. If this is a store bought/ retail cd... 4. Or, if this is a program you downloaded from the internet to cd.... 5. And confirm wether or not that this program has just been downloaded to cd or if it's been downloaded to and installed on the cd itself... I think others haven't replied yet either because they are a bit confused themselves about your question; Quote:

Thanks Crash, yeah I guess I could have been a little more specific. Let me see if I can address you questions and see if that'll help.

You'll have to check carefully with the copyright of the programs that you wan to use, but these programs should do what you want.

IMHO, Daemon Tools is the best cd/dvd drive emulator there is. It's free, it's easy and it will emulate in different secure modes too (ie: securom, safedisc, etc). Find out more at Daemon Tools Home. There are also some addons for it, the only one I use is the shell extension tool so all you have to do is right click on the .cue and load it (currently .cue is the only supported format for the shell extension, but the app itself will load multiple image types)

Well, guess everyone just needed a bit kickstart to get going, lol. Looks like degsy and Baser-X hooked you up pretty good, just let us know if you have any more questions.

A really really really easy proggie combo for this cd copy to hard drive thing is the program CloneCD. It comes with a program called Virtural CloneDrive that emulates actual CD-ROM drives in the My Computer Folder. You can mount CloneCD Images or ISO Images onto the Clone Drive just by right clicking it and going to Virtural Clone Drive and Selecting Mount... Then point it to your image and bam... theres your image loaded exactly like a CD
