Very few according to the stats - less than 2% :)
Will be looking into making it better under NS4 however ;)

Nope - as much as I believe in W3C standards for accessibility and peoples right to choose their browser - people using old browser software like that just slows down the WHOLE progress of the web as a whole.
Besides if they wanna be ultra-l33t they should use Lynx or something :p

The Forum template may not be in place till tomorrow.
Temporary solution for IE-only users = Go into UserCP > Options choose ya style set at the bottom (New Cyber Tech Help).

Full site overhaul then. Must have taken alot of time & effort.
Congrats.
one thing,
On the index page, the top menus, the Members part cuts off in IE, and repeats in Mozilla.

Degsy,
Will look into those issues....
Just a FYI -
Win2k, IE6SP1 has not got the problems you have in 1024*768
No wonder I couldn't duplicate the problem.
Thanks for posting those :)

February 16th, 2003, 10:42 PM
no probs,
I get the same in 1024x768.
The menus work fine, it's just the members & underneath that look like that.

The rest of the site looks ok in those browsers ?
Does the menu look funny on any other pages ?
Have you tried the beta-CTH style set for the forums (I spent 5mins on them) ? How's that on those browsers ? (On NS4 it just spews hence why I mentioned IE only).
Today was not a good idea to become ill! :)

Compat. problems with NS should be fixed now and I suspect those with Mozilla should be solved also. Can you verify this for me Degsy ?
Thanks mate :)

Thanks Degsy.
As far as NS4 is concerned such a small amount of people who visit CTH use NS4 I am going to leave it as is for the time being. Why ? Because NS4 is old, useless, and holds back designers from being able to make beautiful websites. The technologies it cannot support are excellent. Those who use it are depriving themselves of more than they're gaining by whinging on about sites using CSS.
~ never thought I'd hear myself say that but it's true.
Will look into the other issues. Please check ya PMs :)

Won't load at all for me in NS4.7, you may consider a javascript redirection and use basic pages for NS4???
MishY
February 17th, 2003, 08:19 PM
Degsy do you have a good Javascript example of that ?
I will redirect them straight to Netscape Updates :)
degsy
February 17th, 2003, 08:46 PM
This will automatically redirect
<script>
var isNS4 = ((navigator.appName == "Netscape") && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Gecko") == -1));
if (isNS4) {
location.href='http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jsp';
}
</script>
This produces a link
<script>
var isNS4 = ((navigator.appName == "Netscape") && (navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Gecko") == -1));
if (isNS4) {
document.write('<h1>Your browser is unable to load our pages, please update your browser at <a href="http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jsp">Netscape Browser Central</a></h1>');
}
</script>

Hope this helps.

Thanks - can anyone verify whether the problems persist through the rest of the site or not please ?

Interesting. Mozilla didn't even prompt me with the option to install the plugin. I didn't even know it was a flash animation until you told me. It just came across like it couldn't retrieve the image. Installed Flash Player for Mozilla and it's working fine now.
Here's an updated shot. Looks pretty good now.

Great thankyou Postcode :)
Do the inner pages look alright also ? specifically the downloads page and the tutorials page ?
Only NS6 to test now and I'll be happy :)
NS4 users will be redirected to the Netscape Update Center shortly.....

Everything looks good. All the other pages are working fine. The only thing I saw that might be a confusion is the appearance of what looks like check boxes next to each of the downloads. I don't think it'll be an issue though.
http://www.comptechs.org/various/cth_mozilla_13b_3.jpg
Other than that, everything seems to be working properly. The DHTL in the menu is working fine. BTW, great job on the new layout. Very eleagant. :)
Hope this helps.

I'm glad you like it Postcode! and thanks for testing that stuff out for me :)
The "what look like checkboxes" is an image which hasn't been loaded on your page for some reason. So that isn't really a problem as the image path is correct.
What connection are you on ? How are you finding the site speed ?

Both here and at home, I'm on a DSL connection. Page load times are good at work, but I've yet to load the home page at home yet. On average, with a clear cache, pages are loading in about 13 seconds from the time I type the url in and hit enter to the time the last items loads.
My laptop is an older one though. K6300, 256MB, running Windows 2K. Load times are more than likely going to be a bit faster with a faster computer. I think it's spending a few seconds processing data.
Hope this helps.

56K (IE6 SP1) (See profile dor system specs) clean cache
Forum pages for me load in under 6secs
Frontpage of CTH is the biggest page on the site which loads in under 13-20secs
The rest of CTH load between 6-10secs
Are the times you mention Postcode particularly slow for your connection ? Has it become slower considerably or just slightly ? Are you using the new CTH forum layout ?
Thanks again!

One link that is not working is the Free Newsletter icon on the hmepage. IE does not do anything. There is no indication that there is anything going on. Just thought that I would bring it up.
MishY
February 17th, 2003, 11:19 PM
nah that won't work because I haven't sorted out the new newsletter system yet :) Will be getting on to that once I'm happy that everything else is working well. Thanks Seer ;)

Page load times are about the same as they have always been on this laptop. I know times are faster with my home system. This laptop is just kinda doggity. hehe
Forum pages are loading pretty fast. Maybe a bit faster then the rest of the pages, but then the DB structure of vB has always been pretty dang fast.

I see! :) And the load time are just a couple of seconds for me, not more than 3-5 sec. The item that seems to take the longest to load are the nice drop in lettering and the cool guy with shades. :D

The top menu still looks the same for me in IE6 & NS6.1.
Maybe it's my Graphics Card :confused: (ATI AIW 128 Pro, Rage 128 Pro Chip)
The tutorial & download pages work fine, apart from the look of the top menu ofcourse.

Looks good here from home. Load times are just a few seconds. Haven't been to the main page from here since the redesign either. Maybe 10 seconds for the initial load...a few seconds there after.
