I recently bought a Dell Computer it suppose to have a 250GB hard drive. When my son looked at it it had 170 on one drive and 60 on the second drive. How can I find out the correct amount.!

thats about right, it's a math thing between how bits and bytes work.
Various Drive Sizes and their Binary and Decimal Capacities

Drive Size in GB Approximate Total Bytes Decimal Capacity
(bytes/1,000,000,000)
Approximate Binary Capacity (bytes/1,073,724,841)
10 GB 10,000,000,000 10 GB 9.31 GB
20 GB 20,000,000,000 20 GB 18.63 GB
30 GB 30,000,000,000 30 GB 27.94 GB
40 GB 40,000,000,000 40 GB 37.25 GB
60 GB 60,000,000,000 60 GB 55.88 GB
80 GB 80,000,000,000 80 GB 74.51 GB
100 GB 100,000,000,000 100 GB 93.13 GB

The 60 gigs may be the restore/recovery partition. Don't mess with it, especially if your computer arrived without any XP disks.

Also, if you didn't get any disks with the computer, look on the Start Menu (probably under Dell Accessories) for software to make your own recovery/restore disks. If it's there, I recommend you make the disks as soon as possible.

yes the second drive is a recovery/restore drive drive. I wouldn't mess with it. Thanks for your advice about making the back up discs. It does not look like I have the Xp disks.:cry2:
