Had to format and reinstall 98SE on my brother's machine. Home built by me. ASUS KT7, Onboard sound enabled in BIOS. Downloaded new driver from VIA ('97) and now have sound from "Sounds" in CP. Go to use WMP or RealOne and I get no sound device. Shows OK in Device Mangler. Can't see it in Multimedia, Playback.
Any ideas?

You may need to check with ASUS tech support or whatever, but you may find that the sound function is dependent on the video or the modem functions. I am starting to see that some board mfrs are using multifunction chipsets which combine audio and video or audio and modem. The drivers may have to be loaded in a certain order. My laptop requires that the modem drivers be loaded before the sound drivers or it's no-go. Best of luck. You might try reinstalling your video and modem drivers, then sound drivers last.

Thanks, Ted
It's a new board so you might have given me the clue.
I'll try that and post back to let you know.

Getting sounds from CPO then the card is working. The problem is configuration with WMP and RealOne.

Open them up and go through their respective configuration. Could be a file association problem, they may have their own voluum control which are muted?
