My son accidently deleted a Windows file, now his computer is crashed. I have a startup disk and we also have Windows 98, but we don't know how to fix the problem. Any help is appreciated.

Hi stenohead and welcome to Cyber Tech Help :)
Do you have any idea which file he deleted ?
Does his computer even boot at all at this stage ?
If it does, what if any errors do you get ?
Pls include the full error including any numbers, letters.
Thanks,
MishY

Well, until you said that I was going to tell Zip off for suggesting such drastic action for a deleted file!
But now we know you have deleted the entire windows folder, have a look here at CTH tutorials pages and at the links Zip posted. You need to reinstall Windows to restore your system.

Hi again,
Here is the step-by-step guide for what you need to do. http://www.cybertechhelp.com/pages/tutorials/reinstallwindows.html
You may be able to avoid the FDISK and FORMAT steps, download the bootdisk and install onto a floppy disk. Boot with that disk in your floppy drive and then run Windows Setup from your CD-Rom.
Warning: This may not work perfectly depending on what version of Internet Explorer you had on the system but at the very least will get you back into a Windows environment to be able to back up data and then start again by wiping Hard drive and installing W95 "clean".
