Outlook Express only opens occasionally. When it does open there are no messages in inbox, sent, deleted, etc. What should I do?

yes, it's been working fine for years. Now I can open it but all my folders, Inbox, sent, deleted, etc. do not show up.

With OE closed, run a Search for folders.dbx. Delete all it finds. See if OE will open and display messages.

I tried what you suggested and deleted 5 folders which were folders.dbx. I still don't have my files back. I do have empty folders for inbox, outbox, sent, deleted but I don't have all my e mails in those folders and I don't have the other folders which I stored things in. I believe the folders are still on my computer but they're not showing up

Do a search for *.dbx. That will find all the dbx files on your computer. OE stores all its email messages in .dbx files.
Generally, the folder containing .dbx files with the names of folders you have set up is the one containing all your messages. If you didn't set up any folders in OE, then the ones with your files are usually the largest .dbx files found.
Once you think you've identified the .dbx files containing your data, use OE's File>Import>Messages, telling it to import from a store folder and then point it at the folder with the .dbx files you think contain your messages.
