Freeze ups in Counter Strike
Hello, I have
windows xp pentium 4 1.6 768 ddr ram 100 gb 7200 rpm maxtor hard drive nvidia geforce fx 5200 128 mb graphics card soundblaster extreme gamer 5.1 broadband cable internet at 100 mbps All drivers up to date, windows up to date with all service packs. This is the same build I had before I had to recover and reinstall windows. So I know this machine can handle it, it handled half life 2 without a problem. But ever since I reinstalled, it doesnt crash or anything, it just loads into either counter strike online or half life 2 offline and freezes every couple of seconds. The fps is fine its just the constant freezing every 15 seconds or so thats annoying. Ive gone through just about everything in this computer trying to find the problem but no luck. Ive cleaned out the registries, defragged the hard disk, adjusted the graphic card settings, when I run performance diagnostics everything comes back with flying colors so I dont know where else to look. If anyone can offer some other suggestions or know what the problem may be I would appreciate the help. Thanks. |

What is your internet connection / speed? Have you got the net_graph up? - Any choke or loss showing? (Still happens even when offline).
And is this the only game with the problem?

My internet speed is 100 mbps, I subscribed to the fastest speed my cable company offers. It happens in half life 2 as well. I dont have net graph up and havent checked on choke and loss. Its hard to do anything more then get aggravated and quit. Everything freezes including the mouse, commands and any windows like console I may have opened so its hard to do anything in the game once in it. Anything I run off of steam seems to be giving me trouble, I also run EverQuest and World of Warcraft and both of which havent experienced any problems.

You may wish to try running it in a window- I had a similar problem and windowing it helped.
