When I try to start windows, it stops at C: prompt and just blinks. I have to use a backup disk to get it to start in A:
Windows will not come on at all.
Safe-mode showed a vmx32.vxd (or something) which I copied from my desk top computer (windows 98), but I don't know where to copy it to (in dos) or if it will help.
By the way it's a laptop 486,133mhz

Hello dere

The file that you are referring to is vmm32.vxd

That file is created during the installation of Windows and is specific to the machine it is created on. You cannot simply copy vmm32.vxd from another machine.

If the message you are getting is that this file is missing or corrupted you will need to re-install Windows :(

Thanks, is there a way to reinstall windows when windows won't open? Can I do it through dos. Will dos recognize the CD? by the way, my CD and Floppy use the same bay. I have access to an external Floppy, can I then have both the CD and Floppy active, and install that way? Would I have to change my BIOS to recognize it or does the serial port do that?
