Hi,

I want to have Internet Connection Sharing over Direct Cable Connection.

I have the following network:

Computer A: XP Pro SP2, single Ethernet RJ45 connected to broadband internet, no wireless, directly connected to computer B over LPT1 (DCC host)

Computer B: XP Pro SP2, DCC client

Computers A & B are able to ping & share files over DCC.

From computer A, I login to Internet through LAN port using Cyberoam client provided by my ISP. The "Internet Connection Sharing" option in LAN properties is not even displayed - probably Windows thinks there's no other connection in this machine.

Tried DCShare42. In computer A, I started up DCShare42.exe. In computer B, I ran Setup32.exe and clicked 'Setup'. Gave me 'Error 05'. Both DCC (in A & B) and internet (in A) were alive then. The 'Test' also fails.

(1) How do I resolve the error of DCShare? Is Windows Firewall playing prank?

(2) What else could I do to make the ICS over DCC work? Am not interested in purchasing additional lan cards or such, especially since both are laptops.

Thanks a lot in advance,
Joy

I have found the solution. Simply, DCShare42 has to be started on computer A and then the direct cable connection from computer B should be initiated. DCShare42 will show in its logs that a connection is being made.

Another thing, the auto-detect settings on Mozilla Firefox browser in computer B does not work. I had to set the proxy settings manually.

Thanks to all who may have already spent time investigating this.
