I am trying to set up file sharing between a new laptop and desktop over a wireless network. Both are XP SP2, Netgear router.
I used the network wizard, set different computer names the same workgroup name. When i go to view workgroup computers in my network places on the laptop i can see the desktop computer but when i try to click on it it says "innaccessable, network path not found". On the Desktop the laptop was showing but now isn't. i ran cmd /k ipconfig on the laptop and the ip seems normal, the default gateway was 192.168.0.1 and i could ping it.
Very frustrated, what am i missing ?
thanks

Sorry, both xp pro sp2, what do you mean "Try setting up the same account name & pass on each PC." are you talking about the computer names or windows user profiles ?
I have AVG and Zonealarm on both pcs, and i guess windows firewall too, do i need to do anything to them ?
Thanks

Yes, set a user account on both. It sometimes solves secruity/permission problems.
ZA should detect the new network. Add it too the local zone.
You can set the firewall for local zone to medium.

Both pcs have the same users set up with administrator privilages, so i set the same passwords to both. Restarted both pcs. Now the desktop gives an error "workgroup unavailable, the list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available." when i try to view workgroup.
When i restarted the laptop i can see the desktop but still get the "network path not found " error when i try to click on it.

Everthings fine now, i thought that because the network was on the zonealarm accepted list, it was fine; I didnt realize that I had to change it from internet to trusted. Changed now and everything is good (fingers crossed). Thanks for your help.

just for your information in the future, if you every boot up your laptop and try to go into my network places, and it doesnt show your desktop try hitting F5 a few times to refresh it. It takes a few minutes to get the network in sync when booting up.
