Opening Outlook Express produces the message MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in moduel MSOE. DLL. Suggest with microsoft were to rewrite the dbx folder, but when i try i find that it is write-protected. How do I change that so i can change the folder.

You will need to open Windows Explorer. This can be found in the Programs Menu. In here, click on the Tools Menu then Folder Options. In here, click on the View Tab. Select "Show hidden files and folders". Click the Apply button the the OK button. Now within Windows Explorer, navigate to the following folder:

In here you will find all of the mail box folders for Outlook Express.

Right click on the individual folder and select properties. Near the bottom of this box you will see some check boxes. One of them is Read Only. Uncheck this box. This will turn off the write protection of the mail box.

First off, have you done a virus scan? Get this done if you haven't yet before going any further.

TrendMicro Online Virus Scan (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/)

That may be a way. Try accessing the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, remove it, then reinstall. There might be a reapir option, which I would try first.

Another is to use the Windows Update feature in Internet Explorer, and check for any updates to IE.

One other option is to move the folders to another location, say your desktop into another folder then restart Outlook Express. If it starts, then it's an issue with the mailboxes themselves. Try moving individual mailboxes back into that folder and then start Outlook Express. When you get the error, then you know which folder is casuing the issue.

Hope this helps.

The problem has now changed. Instead of getting a message that says an invalid page fault at module MSOE.DLL i get one that says KERNEL32.DLL. Is that an improvement? or have things gotten worse?
