i got an in build sound card..from avance logic ac'97...

i got it installed and under the device manager it doesnt detect any problems and it states its working just fine..

but under c.panel >multimedia i cant seem to see and select the device for playback of any sound..

under the properties of Multimedia > Devices tab > Audio Devices > audio for avance AC'97 audio ....i check the status and it says this "Status:Driver is enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem"

im definately sure its the correct driver as the same drivers worked for another hard disk of mine..but i cant get it to work on this one..

i've tried removing all the drivers and then installing the drivers n restartin it to let it be auto detected but it doest work as well..

pls advice..
thanxs..

Reckless, Look at the top of this page and click the Downloads link. Download and run AIDA32. Post back what it lists for your motherboard make and model.

Try going into Add/Remove Programs > Windows Setup and remove Multimedia and reboot. Then return and re-install it.

**Make sure you have your Win98 CD.

This is odd...You may want to install Windows on top of itself. Just be sure to tell it to keep the current settings when it detects that windows is already installed.

reinstall windows? :(

kinda risky..as i onced screwed up everything and lost all my files..
dont wanna take the risk..losing my files will cost me more than a new sound card...so guess i gotta go shopping soon :(

guess this is a unsolvable prob..:rolleyes:

I sure wish you guys could've solved this one. Tonight my computer developed the exact same problem. I have a Biostar M7MIA mobo with a SoundBlaster Live Value card. Sound quit working and I'm getting the exact same error message: "Driver is enabled but inactive due to an unknown problem"

I've uninstalled an reinstall the drivers from the original CD

I've removed the sound properties from the device manager and let the computer reinstall.

I've completely removed the sound card from the computer and reinstalled.

I don' know what else to do except to buy a new sound card. I really didn't understand all that about inserting lines in the system.ini thing, though. It does look like there may be some lines missing based on what I've read here. My current system.ini (the drivers and MCI portion) looks like this:

[drivers32]
msacm.l3acm=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\L3CODECA.ACM

[MCI]
MPEGVideo=mciqtz.drv
MPEGVideo2=mciqtz.drv

should there be more???

try add this line to ur [Boot] part of ur system.ini

drivers=mmsystem.dll

...the advice i had on other forums is to add this line as it helped some ppl with the same problem...it was a fix for some ppl...but for some, like myself, it didnt do any good..
g'd luck!

Try this, Boot into safe mode and then open the device manager. If there are any duplicate entries, remove them and reboot.

Woo Hoo !! Thanks for the suggestion, Reckless. Fixed me right up. I tried tb525's suggestion first, but only one sound device listed in the device mangler. Then added the drivers= line to my system.ini file and works perfectly.
