Hello, I have recently installed a copy of XP Pro on a second system in my home. I want to be able to access files on this system, so I set the C: drive to be shared on the network. I can now access the C: drive from my other system running 2K, but when I click on a folder to view its contents it tells me access is denied. I have 2 users set up on the xp computer. These 2 users along with "all users" are the only 3 icons that show when I open up "documents and settings". It's when I click on one of the users that access is denied pops up. I know there must be something in the settings to allow access to the users files on the network. I'm just not to familiar with xp networking yet. I've looked all around for a way to change user settings or preferences or access and couldn't find a way to change it.
Can someone please help?
Thanx
Jim

Are both machines logged on using the same usernames and passwords?
This can often be the first stumbling block.

Right click on the folder from the computer that it belongs to, and choose properties. It sounds like a permissions problem.

I don't quite understand what is going on with these 2 systems. BTW I tried checking all the sharing properties of all files and folders involved. Everything is set to allow access. Also I checked that no usernames are doubled up between the 2 systems like snurfen said.
I have the drive on the XP system partitioned into 2. C: and E: I can view all the files on E: from my 2K system. When I click on C:>docs and settings>jim from my 2K system it says access denied. Jim is the logon name I use when I log on the XP system. I know it has something to do with permissions, but I don't know where to look. I did not have this problem when I used 2K on both systems. I can access any and all files set to share on the network on my 2K system from my xp system, but not the other way around.
Can someone please help?
