OK so I am trying to open 2 ports for a program I use.....but no matter what I do, they won't open....I do everything I always do to forward a port, test it and it doesn't work, I tried different ports, but any port I try and forward is still getting blocked

DSL modem --> Parents computer with ICS --> router --> my computer (http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y68/pathetic_purple_penguin/routersetup.gif)

my computer and my parents compuer are running XP SP2 firewall

Here is what I do: open the port on my computer's firewall, then I open the port in my router, then I open the port on ym parents computer, then I test the port (http://whatsmyip.org/ports/)......but no matter what port I open, it is still blocked

I disabled the firewalls on my computer and my parents compuer and the ports are still blocked

You shouldn't be using ICS if you have a router. Your connection should go from the modem to the router, then from the router go to each computer. Internet Connection Sharing is a service that is supposed to be used when you don't have a router or a switch, and you want a computer itself to act as one.

The ethernet port on the modem is dead, I have no choice but to USB the USB connection directly to a computer.......not to mention if I didn't use the ICS I'd need to run another 90 foot cable to my room, which would involve putting more holes in walls, bottom line, it's not an option

You got me, I'm not too familiar with port forwarding, especially with the way you've got everything set up. Maybe somebody else could help.

My suggestion is to get a new router. They're not too expensive. Otherwise there is no way to route connection to your computer without being properly connected to the router itself. It uses the computers specified IP address on the router to determine where to send the signal.

for instance, if your mom's computer IP is 192.168.0.123 then you would assign ports 21(ftp default port) to route the incoming connection from your IP such as 62.231.285.155:21(the semi-colon acts as way to determine what port to access). then the router will determine which computer is going to receive a connection incoming from port 21, which would be your mom's computer.

so you see there is no address for YOUR computer on your router, hence you need to be connected directly.

hope this helps.
