Okay, lets see how smart y'all really are. First the set up and the way it is ran. I have a cable modem, that is plugged into the first computer (Firewall computer). This computer has two net cards and network sharing is enabled. From there it goes into the Internet\WAN port of the Belkin router. All other computers are then hooked into the other side of the router (anyone that can anwser this question knows what I mean by "the other side of the router"). This works very well, however, I can not seem to get it to scan the incoming data stream (the net) for viruses, male-ware, spy-ware, and so on. Now the anti virus software that I have is set up for this and the company also supports this type of set up, they even have an online tech support movie to show people "How to" step by step. Anyway, I have done what they show to do, and still when I go to the EICAR.org page to test to see if the anti virus on the (Firewall) computer is able to stop the test file, it does not. I have spoken to a few of the local tech people, all say that it sounds like I have it all set correctly, one of them has a set up, in the exact same way, and his works. He uses a different anti virus program though. He uses Norton. Now I have tried Norton and I still can't seem to get it to scan the incoming traffic. No one seems to know exactly what to do to rectify the problem, well that is to say, no one will tell me unless I am willing to pay them (any where from $75 to $125 per hour) to come out and dig through my computers, and my network. This would not be a problem if they could assure me that they could make it work, but none of them boost such an ability, but they still want to be payed. I just getting tired of spending hundreds $ each year on software for many computers. There has to be a easier way.

Anyone got an idea?

I don't think anyone can even start to try to help without at least knowing the A/V software you are using. Also, which file from EICAR are you trying? Also, What OS is the FW computer running?

Sorry about that. I have tried (Anti virus) Norton, McAfee, Panda, and at present, I am using Awil's avast pro. It has a longer trial period that the others. As for the os, that would be XP pro, with all the up dates in place. The firewall is in place and set to scan all inbound ports as well. Thank for the reply.

Oh yeah, I forgot. The Eicar.org files are test files that the public can use to see if they have their system set right. As for the file, any file can be used to test you anti virus program. If you have it up to date (anti virus) and set correctly, it should see the file as a test virus and not a true threat. All the bells and whistles will go off as if it were real, but if you read the report, it should show that it is only a test.

Ok, I found out how he did this. If anyone is interested in finding out how it was done then let me know.
