I recently went from XP pro back to windows 2000pro on my desktop and now for some reason after installation it gets stuck at the second loading screen. The loading bar gets all the way full and then it just stops where it should go into windows explorer. I am able to boot in safe mode into windows, but I am not sure what even to do in safe mode to fix it. I installed using NTFS first and then reformatted using FAT32 and both have the same result. I also tried repairing. Installation was done with the 4 win2k boot disks and the win2k CD.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I read your other thread about the CMOS change.
When a CMOS battery is pulled the BIOS (CMOS) settings are *all* set to default. So there were
most likely some custom settings returned to default. You'll have to go back into the BIOS settings
and look that the hard drive is recognized in there.
If any virus settings in the BIOS disable them.
I'll assume the time and date are set.
If you have a video card as apposed to a video chip onboard the motherboard you'll have to
look for the Video setting in there and set it appropriately. PCI or AGP or whatever the video
setting selections are in your BIOS.
If you have one floppy drive ensure A: is the only floppy enabled.
ACPI = enabled.
Quick Boot = enabled
(not important but I like Number Lock (NUM LOCK) = disabled)
If you have changed something then return it to default
I am not sure what even to do in safe mode to fix it.
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
in the command prompt type
chkdsk /r hit enter
it'll pop up a thing saying "it can't, do you want to do it next reboot?" type Y That will take a long time.
After, safe mode with prompt again and type
fixboot hit enter
reboot

Good and BAD.
Ok so it turns out that for some reason the OS or something does not like the graphics card. I had been running a PCI Geforce 2 MX card I installed, the computer originally came with a built-in intel chipset, so I connected back to there and Wink2k booted right up. I was able to get all drivers installed and all windows updates run, then I went back and tried reinstalling and connecting to the PCI Geforce 2. No luck. It's still sticking on the 2nd loading screen. Device manager confirmed that the geforce 2 pci card had drivers installed properly and everything.
So what gives? What is wrong with the graphics card that I had been using for such a long time in both 2k and XP. I have service pack 4 installed with every windows update possible.
Please help!

So basically the video works through the card to the monitor when booting because it uses some sort of software mode i guess, and same with safe mode. But for some reason in regular booting mode it wont open to windows because of some issue its having with the video card. Is there any way for me to get to the root of this problem? Anything I can do in safe mode to make it work. Like I said, device manager indicates that the drivers i installed (newest from nvidia support) are installed and working correctly and it recognizes the graphics card. What gives? Anything I need to do to the PCI setting is BIOS or something?
Thanks

You most likely have to enter the BIOS settings and alter settings for the video card.
The Gforce II may have better luck in a different PCI slot than the PCI slot used for
the original PCI video card.
You also want to remove the drivers for the old video card (from Device Manager) before
you shutdown to replace the cards.
