windows 2000 won't boot!!

Can someone please help?! My daughters computer won't boot. \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM file missing. I do not have the original windows 2000 set up disc. At this point I don't care wether or not everything is wiped out and we start fresh. I cant even go into safe mode to fix the problem. can anyone help? I tried to do emergency disc repair disc, but wouldn't do anything. The computer is a compaq presario 5000 windows 2000.

Without an operating system disk there isn't much you can do. Since w2k was built on the NTFS file system, any Emergency boot disk like those used in win98, won't work. Wipe it out and start new, you'll probably be happier, and it will run better after cleaning all the junk out, but you'll still need an operating system disk.
