New video card and ram but still same old low fps.
Hello
Recently I purchased a new AGP Radeon x1950 Pro 512, new 460w psu and 1gb more ram as an upgrade from my old Radeon 9800 SE and 768mb ram, becuase I had low fps (10-20) and i though this was the problem but after setting it up and installing latest drivers etc I found it had barely made any difference at all, maybe about 5-10fps (playing at 1280x1024). Was just wondering if anyone has an idea at all, it seems very annoying ive just dished out quite a bit of money for nothing. Do you think maybe it could be the processor as mentioned before in another topic? Or is it something else im missing? My specs are: Microsoft Windows XP Professional ~ Service Pack 2 Procesor: AMD Athlon XP, 2154 MHz (13 x 166) Motherboard:Asus A7V600-X (6 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DDR DIMM, Audio, LAN) Memory: 1792 MB (DDR SDRAM) Video: Radeon X1950 Pro (512 MB) DirectX 9.0c Thanks

im thinking, maybe with ur old graphics card you used low settings, but with your new one your using the high settings, which is causing that. If this is true, try going into the game, put everything on Low settings, restart the game, and see how much boost you get, and see how much higher it is over high detail.

I have been an ATi fan for years now, and just now came accross this website that I am sure you will find interesting.
It will take you a coupl-a-days to read through, but I am sure you will find an answer to you question... I know I did ![]() BTW, what windows pagefile size are you using? That is something I discovered reading through that site.

For the steam games you are playing, go into console (hit ~) and type in
fps 100 (or was it fps_max 100...) Should fix your problem. Last edited by flaris; February 18th, 2007 at 12:25 AM. |

Thanks for the replies guys, but even when playing on the low settings it doesnt really improve much at all. Vsync is off and also tried with no shadows but not much improvement.
For Qualanqui: I looked through the document, did a few tweaks but also to not much success, also my pagefile is set to 3gb. Not sure what to do still. Edit: Oh yes I forgot something that might have a connection. Everytime I restart my computer the resolution has been reset to the lowest of 800x600 and I have to change it each time. And another thing I just noticed, is when i open Catalyst Control Centre, the small little preview screens dont work, a 'Windows Preview Application has encountered an error' pops up. These could all be connected, not sure though.. Last edited by Imirik; February 17th, 2007 at 10:54 PM. |

Hi Imirik.
Can you run DirectX diagnostics (start>run>dxdiag) and see what it thinks of your Display drivers. Have you installed the latest drivers for your Motherboard?
