hey ive been dealing with a computer that has port 23 blocked and i dont know too much about networking but i have some experience with it and command prompt. The network associated with the computer is telnet based but port 23 was blocked out temporarily for testing purposes and i was wondering if it is possible to open another port that will do the same thing. this question may not make sense and i apoligize for my lack of networking knowledge its the next class im gonna take. basically, in the lab i can type "telnet c-lab23" and it will connect and i can do what i need for ex. : "shutdown -s -t 01 -f" well with port 23 blocked i cant no longer do this so could i so a port forward on like port 55 that i could link to the other computer? why does the computer really "care" what port its accessed through...just looking for a little understanding, i mean is there something integrated in the router about port 23 that processes these requests a certain way for me to operate a different computer through the network? thanks for any info
