I have an XP system with a Soundbalster 16 PCI sound card. When I play music on my Windows Media Player, the songs skip frequently. Is there a setting or something I can do to prevent this from occurring?

Do you have many programs running in the background? I have found that if I have to many other programs running winamp will skip.

Also which version of winamp are you using? The newer version 3.x takes up more processor time and so it will skip easier. Try downloading version 2.81 which is less processor intensive.

Have you updated you sound card drivers?

I do not have win amp running - although I downloaded that once and uninstalled it. I am only using windows media player. I will check for the latest drivers but I just loaded them 2 months ago when I installed the card.

Any other settings to look for?

Heres to me making myself look dumb. I somehow read WMA as winamp.

Anyhow, do you have many programs running in the background while listening to music? Having many programs running will cause the player to skip quite often.

Nothing else is running. It will skip on all kinds of songs - every genre from my music to my little daughters "wiggles" music. There has to be some setting in the WMA or sound card or something that is making this happen. Any other ideas?

Have you tried any other media players? Personally I use winamp ( can you imagine;) ) without any problems. Other than that I don't know of any other reasons why the player could be skipping.
