i've had this wireless router (Belkin: Wireless G Plus Router) the main reason i bought it was for gaming wise. I love xbox live on my new 360. It works and its all setup but every other day or everyother hour it disconnects by itself. And im not sure why.... or is this something that happens often with wireless routers?

Maybe you are too far away from it. Possibly there some sort of interference from other wireless sources like cell phone, cordless phone, microwaves and such.
