I'm an generally an amature though I have some web design experience and have completed a web design course, though a few years ago now. I also have a Dip in Infotech.

I'm volunteering to design - but do little upkeep for a few not-for-profit groups.

Anyway:

I'm designing a few pages (in FrontPage 2003) using my 19" monitor and have fears everything will be out of whack when I finally load it on the web. Other than reselecting an new Monitor Resolution, restarting and viewing them with the new res. is there a feature that will permit me to design them specifally in 1024x768?
In some of the pages the users are wanting to self up date information within the pages. Is there a code so that I can get the HTML to update with a known text file? For example a HTML page refers to a .txt or .doc file for content. The next month the information needs to be updated and the users write the .doc/.txt file up, FTP it and the HTML has the new content? Letting them do this will let me off the hook with a stack of their updates.
Thanks for your valuable assistance.

1) Don't design for a specific resolution. Design using percentage values. You page will then resize to fit.

2) Sounds more like you want a content management system that has a WYSIWYG/Rich Text editor.
This will allow users to upload/create pages using their browser within the site.

Even if you don't need to go to that extent you will still need server-side scripting knowledge to be able to read/write files.

I would recommend going the database route and use a CMS. There are many available for PHP/mySQL.

Not really. There are so many these days that you just have to do some research to find one that offers what you want.

In the old days it was PHPNuke and PostNuke but that was a few years back. I once installed PHPFusion and that seems ok.

Google PHP CMS
or look for things like Mambo and Joomla
