OK- all I want to do is be able to help my husband do online research for his company. Nothing tricky. His office has DSL and inside our house (approx. 100 ft from his office) I have an imac. We were told we would need a N Router which I found and was recommended a Linksys. First, is this the router that I need? and when I read the specs it states that it requires Windows. My tech guy at the university says that it may be possible to still use Linskys- does anyone know for sure to save me the trouble of buying it? and what all do I need to get- just a router and an adapter? will I need an expander with that distance since they rae seperate buildings? I really appreciate any help on this, I have two small children and when you don't know a lot about computers and haven't the time for research it can be tough. Thanks in advance.

The office PC will need to be plugged to the router. Then, you could probably use airport on your imac to connect. But, 100ft sounds abit too far, im not sure.

A router has an uplink from your dsl (or cable) modem. You them plug in computers from the CPU to the router's out ports. Cat5 cables are generally okay up to 150 ft. I believe (I could be wrong on that).

What router you get really doesn't matter much. Most routers are administered from a web browser (at least the Linksys routers I've used are). It's really simply a matter of plugging in the router then plugging in the computers. The hardest part would be running the cat5 cable.

You could use an airport if you have the base station, but 100 ft across buildings is a bit far to get a stable wireless connection in most cases.
