I recently reloaded win98se after a major meltdown.I now find that I cannot enable the DMA box in device manager for the dvd rom(DVD 16x5h) and the performance tag under filesystem /cd-rom shows 'no read ahead' and cannot be altered.I also have a burner (sony crx175A1)which I also cannot activate to DMA.Every now and then when a cd is placed in the dvd player the the secondary bus master controller packs it in and I get a yellow exclamation mark next to it,which requires a system reset to get it going again.I have reinstalled the drivers a number of times ,removed the NOIDE notation in the registry .I have checked the device manager for conflicts and cannot locate anything glaringly wrong, after looking at the addresses and irq's allocated.I run win98se on an Amd 750mhz slot a system MSI k7 pro motherboard with 384mb of ram.Other pci cards are an agp geforce 2 vga card,Pixelview tv pro pci card,Usb 2.0 Nec pci board and sound card(pci). The cdroms show on boot that they are activated as DMA 3 and 2 respectively but 32bit is off.Win 98 in the system manager shows that 32 bit is activated and is running correctly.Any help would be appreciated,as I have run out of options and ideas to correct the problem .
