I have just had to reload windows 2000 Pro and I need to access my outlook explorer email details, which disappeared.I had saved them previously on a removable hard drive using adobe 5.I have tried to open them but the files can't be read , ( the files are in a format that can't be read!)even though I have adobe 5 installed along with adobe 4 and adobe 7(do I really need all these adobes? doesn't one supercede the other,i.e no 7 should be able to read no 4 and 5)They are shown as being .pst file.
Is there any other way I can retrieve these dissappeared emails?:disgust:

A .pst file is the file format ms outlook uses to save/backup your adresses and emails and such. Just import the .pst file into the outlook program you are using and all your contacts and emails should show up. Go to import/export>import from another program>select file type(personal folder file .pst)>browse for file.
Hope this helps.
Jim

I'm assuming he means acrobat reader. But I believe the .pst files are ms outlook personal folder files. Don't know what adobe has to do with it?

that is why we need clarification as to what adobe product is being used. I learned a long time ago you cannot assume on this forum.

Hi Jim
Thanks for tuning in,under import , I have the option :Address Book,Other address book,Messages,Mail Account Settings and News account settings.I managed to get:Select Address Book File to import from.Browsing this I could select the file folder only, not the file. The folder won't open at all. When I click on "open" the pop up says" Acrobat reader could not open Outlook .pst because it is not a supported file type or it has been corrupted.I am running Windows 2000 Professional .I have a few folders of outlook containing Inbox, sent, delete and draft but they all respond in the same way

OK, you want to import the mail amd addresses. Do not bother with trying to open the folder or view the files. You cannot view the contents of this file. The folder might be called something like backup.pst. Just navigate to the .pst folder you saved using file>importand import it into the outlook express you are using now. The above instructions I gave you are for MS Outlook, but I know that Outlook Express is similar.
Hope this helps.

Actually, in Outlook Express (which I use) you want to import Messages. When it goes to the next window chose which ever other email program you used previously.

I go to file in Outlook Express>import message>specify identity and import mail from OE6 >diretory>browse to folder the size is 19.1mb,highlight it>import message, location of message is shown, pop up"No message can be found in this folder or another application is using the req'd files."Nothing else is open except Outlook Express

Did you browse to the removable drive where you origionaly saved the .pst file?

.pst files are not Outlook Express files, so when it asks which mail client/software, you need to chose Outlook, not Outlook Express. Then browse to where you've saved those .pst files.
