Hey iv just installed network cable through house from router to xbox 360 in another room. I decide go with cables and not wireless mainly due to lag. Ok iv installed cable into the walls, the sockets are ready to go. Now problem is shop i purchased wallplates from said that telephone RJ45 wallplate will work for the network. Im using Cad6 cable. I had my doubts but they assured me it would work. So i cam home to find that that xbox can not detect the router/internet and other computer. Iv wire up cable exactly same for both plates and all 8 wires are hooked up. Is there reason it want work? iv hooked laptop up to xbox 360 end and laptop says there is internet but cant actually look up page.. Does this mean i need purchase other proper network wallplates. Cause i know they dont hook up like telephones ones. I though it would still work dam this is pain. Any suggestions? Iv even stipped cable to wire and but it through twice to make sure its getting connections but still not good. I looks like it can be put through 3 times should i try that?

Well, a RJ-45 connecter should work, the question is it wired correctly. The image here shows how the wires should run.

Are you using the proper crimping or punchdown tool? What brand are you using? My personal favorite is "Leviton".

It not typical computer network wall plate. Its one they use for RJ45telephones. Its got 8 different sections where you push wire in to conductors where they are pinched in. see my crappy paint brush example lol. Green is the wires. http://users.tpg.com.au/niroice/rj45.JPG

I didnt try and place wires same setup as cable cause you cant tell with this cause all it has on it is earth, T4,T3 and etc written. But on both plates i made sure same colour was in exact same spot so it still work same one would think. I even put the wire through all 3 conductors slots available for each wire (I even stipped wire so it was def conducting) . if that makes any sense to you. Should this still work even if its telephone wallplate?

Did you look at the picture my other post linked to? You need to wire at least pins 1,2,3,6. I'd do all 8 myself.

yeh they are all wired up to wallplate. Iv got all 8 wires hooked up to all 8 conductor points. So

Green is in "Aux +" conductor point
Green/white is in "Aux -" conductor point
Orange is in "Earth +" conductor point
Orange/white is in "Earth -" conductor point
Blue is in "R3" conductor point
Blue/white is in "R4" conductor point
Brown is in "T3" conductor point
brown white is "T4" conductor point

So they both are wired exactly same for each Wallplate. So even tho wire colour do/may not match up to cable being plugged in that should not matter because all wire no matter what colour are made of same thing. And all conductor points have been hooked up it should work. As long as the 2 wall plates have exact same wiring which they do. Im just wondering is not working cause it RJ45 that was designed for telelphones?

If its RJ45 it shouldn't matter. Are you sure the cable you are connecting into the wall plate is a good patch cable?

See if this helps also

You may have to get a cable tester to make sure that you have a good connection .

Did you also make the cable from the Xbox and router to the Wallplate ?

its cad 6 cable. would it matter that the other cable from router to wall outlet is cad5? that is the only other thing i can think of. Also i bought cad 6 cable with ends on them and cut them off put that shouldnt matter at all whatsoever.

Ok and that will be CAT5 and CAT6 short for Category 5 and 6 cable .

The Cat5 to Cat 6 should not cause a problem there . try the moving the Xbox straight to the router using every thing the same WITHOUT the long cable with the wallplates if that works you know where your problem is .

Well im testing 360 next to router and it works fine. So it had be cable or telephone wallplates. Dam its hard to know. I dont have cable tester. Prob hoping its wallplate more than cable cause there a real pain to install in roof.

UPDATE: holy crap it works now! with all orginal stuff. i had check back of circuit board on wallplate and checked metal dots and figured out by following tracks to soildered points behind conductor points for wires i was able work out from soilder dot points where orange and green wires would go and all of sudden it works! i dont understand why it didnt before must been somthing built into circuit board when all wires attached cause not really designed for computer networks or one wire could of been buggered. but im happy now no more mucking around its all good :)
