Printing problem

Hi All!

I have a Cannon BJC 4400 that had been working just fine. I am now getting an: Error in writing to PLT1: for the printer Cannon BJC4400. Unknown system error. Restart Windows (98) and try to print again.

I tried reinstalling the printer without any luck. So, what appened this time.

Thanks,

Welly P.

The error you are seeing indicates a failure in communication between the computer and printer. I would first verify that the printer itself is working properly by doing a self-test (by pushing a button on the printer itself, it will be described in your printer manual). If the printer passes the self-test, then it is time to try a different cable to connect the printer to the computer.

I would also suggest that you look into your printer driver properties to disable anything that uses bidirectional communication.

Hope this helps!

No printer icon

I have no luck trying to get the printer icon to show up in the taskbar/toolbar where it always had been.

Any more hints?

Here are two things to try. First double click on my computer, then double click on printers. Is your type of printer visible , there should be check mark on the type of printer you are using. Second right click on my computer, click on properties, then device manager, then click on Ports (com&lpt) you should see a item Printer Port (LPT1) is there a yellow exclamation mark visible . If there is a yellow exclamation mark click on it an add drivers. You may need your 98 cd and any other cds that came with your printer. let us know what you find out.

No yellow mark??

Thanks Eagle:

I opened the devise driver window and went to ports. It was marked with a + sign. I clicked on it. It dropped down but I did not see a yellow exclaimation mark.

Zip drive works just fine??

I didn't mention that my printer is connected to or I should say through my ZIP 100 drive off my parallel port. The ZIP drive works just fine. I can read from it and write to it with no problem.

I've had this same setup and same connections for over 3 years. ??? Nothing has even moved??
