Hi all,
I have 3 computers on my lan, 2 of them are xp pro, 1 is suse linux. They are all a member of the Workgroup "Mshome".(One is a laptop xp) (the second is Desktop xp) and third my linux. Now from my laptop i click on the "My Network places" icon on my desktop this opens up a window,I then click on "View workgroup computers" This shows me an icon for my samba connection to my linux, and my xp desktop machines. It also shows me an icon for my laptop shares. This works fine.
From my Desktop machine running xp i click on "My network places" which opens up a window, from this window i can see my sharedDocs on my laptop.I then click on "View workgroup computers" and i then get this error message below.

"Mshome is not accessible you might not have permission to use this this network resource.Contact the adminitrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found."
I also can not see my shares on my Linux workstation which i believe is down to the same problem.
So as much as i am confident the problem is my Desktop machine running Xp i dont know how to resolve this issue, any help would be much appreciated.I would just like to say all my machines are 100% up2date according to "Windowsupdate"
Thanks in advance.

Check your firewall to make sure that you have access.

Have you run the Network Wizard? It can help with permissions problems.
Are you using Simple Networking? That can also help with permission problems.

Another solution is to create a user account on each PC with the same username & password. The PC should then have access to the network.

Hi finally had the chance to look at your reply,(BIG thanks)a firewall is not stopping me i double checked. What i have noticed is this.
When i click on "My Network Places" i then click on "add a network place" which opens up a dialog box which says "welcome to the add network place wizard" i click next which opens up a dialog box showing me the picture of 1 folder which says "choose another network location"
Now on my other xp box when i do the same precedure i am greeted with a dialog box which gives me 2 choices 1 of them is "MSN Communities" the other is the same as above (choose another network location) so i am wandering why would i only be given i choice from my desktop pc.I s there anything else i can check? :)

Hello masternige,

Are you using the Windows XP Firewall, or a personal firewall either Windows Live OneCare, ZoneAlarm, or Norton Internet Security?

Would you provide the ipconfig output from both computers we can further diagnose the problem? If you can provide us the working and non working computer we can compare and hopefully diagnose this further. To provide the output of the ipconfig, please follow these steps:

1. Click Start - Run - "cmd" (without quotes) in the Open box and press ENTER.
2. Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" (without quotes) into the command window
3. Open c:\ipconfig.txt in notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
