I booted up my PC and the litle volume control in the task bar has disapeared and there is no sound. I try to use internet radio and it says - sound card not detected.

I found the shortcut to the volume control but when I click on it nothing happens.

I go to START-CONTROL PANEL-SETTINGS-SYSTEM-DEVICE MANAGER

and it says - this device is working

there are no yellow or red splats anywhere.

my girlfriend may have done something to make this happen but I dont know what, I cant get in contact with her so I cant ask for week!

Does anyone know how I could diagnose or fix the problem?

WIN98SE
666MHZ
64MB
ESS Allegro PCI audio card

In the Device Manager, remove all the sound components. You may see a device in the sound area for the modem. You can leave that in there. After removing them, reboot the computer. WIndows should detect the devices and reinstall the drivers for them.

Hope this helps.
