Is this possible? I need to transfer a lot of files from a PC that has Windows 98 on it to a Laptop which has Windows XP on it but I'm not sure how to do it at all.

The PC with Windows 98 has this installed on it (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=136479) and the Laptop has built in wireless.

Another way is to use a cross over cable between the two computers then drop and drag

Been awhile since I've done this, but enable file sharing on the Windows 98 machine through Start/Settings/Control Panel/Network. You can use the XP Networking capability to establish a network between the two machines.

I've do it with XP to XP. You'll have to look in the network places. You also need a CROSOVER Cable (not an ordinary straight through. The pins are different.) In general terms connect like devices with a cross over cable and different devices with a straight through cable. You can google to computer hope.com or microsoft for the long explaination.

Crossover cable commerically made is normally 50 cents a footapproximately.

Let me know how it goes

crossover cables are the way to go.

you need to run File and Settings Transfer Wizard in Windows XP.

START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS

once there select that your computer is the NEW one and it will guide you through everything.

it may take a while and may have some complications because 98 used the FAT32 file system while XP uses the NTFS. good luck with it, let us know how it goes.
