Room 1: I have the cable internet feed into one room going to a modem.
Room 2: I have another room with cable TV video feed.
Question: In "Room 2" : Would I be able to split the signal between video and data and run a direct connection to computer with or w/o 2nd modem????
Can you run 2 modems in the house? Will they notice changes in signal?
Will internet feed in "Room 2" affect video feed in same room?
Reason: trying to bring a more solid connection to "Room 2". Currently its on wireless from "Room 1" setup with modem. Wireless connection gets low from time to time. I'm looking to improve my connection.
-Hope this all makes some sense.

If I understand this right, all you need to do is have a router. (if you don't already have one). Then notify your cable internet company of the router, they will ping it, or whatever it is they do, and set it up. Then you just have to run a cat5 line from the router to your LAN card on each computer. The router will have just one IP address and you can hook up 4 or 5 computers to it if it has that many ports.
Hope that makes sense......

but if I get a router I would need a second modem.
Current setup which works, but I would like something better:
room 1 with modem and wireless router.
room 2: my computer with wireless card picking up signal.
* i would like to get rid of wireless and just run hard wire.

No you would not need another modem. Your current modem would plug into the router with a cat5 wire, then you would run cat5 to your other computers, from the router...

Doesn't the existing wireless router have ethernet port(s) as well?
How is it connected to the PC?
Another alternative is to run a peer-to-peer network between the 2 PCs.
Ethernet crossover cable from PC1 to PC2 with PC1 connected to the modem with Internet Connection Sharing enabled.

here is the other question, if you hook into your router will you be able to feed a cat5 cable through the walls/ceilings/whatever to your other computer? if you're looking to have 2 separate connections in each room then you'll have to get another surfboard/cable modem connector that transfers coax to data.
if i'm not mistaken, comcast will charge you for another connection, not to mention another modem rental. reason is, the surfboard that is connected has specified settings from your provider, but you get another one you'll have to set it up as if it were 2 connections from comcast, get it?
sorry if this is confusing.

forgot to mention, another IP from comcast should cost you around 12 bucks extra per month.
my suggestion is to run a cable line and mount a connection line into the wall. I did it myself at my house and all it cost was about 8 dollars for a ethernet connector.

i can run the cat5 in the house myself, I use to do that type of work, I just didn't want to hassle with going through the attic. under he house is a no go. I used to do it in buildings not residential though. might be a little different going down walls.
