Good Evening All:
I deleted everything printer related and started over reinstalling from a CD and with a new printer cable. Ran "tests" in BW and Colo(u)r. Reinstalled old printer cable and both test prints were again OK.
No problem with the cable. No problem with the printing capabilities of the Cannon BJC 4400.
I can't print a doctument or anything except what the test patterns call for.
This is getting old!

Hey WellingtonP lets see if we can get this thing running. ;)
First do you have a snug connection on the printer cable?
Next
Check Start->setting->printer
Right click Canon BJC-4000, make sure set as default is checked and pause printing isn't checked.
*Also take paper out and make sure it is in correctly and that the plastic piece the paper rests against on left is exactly in the right position, not one sixteenth either way. A slight bump will throw this off. Sometimes, it takes several attempts to get it correct.
Check back for more suggestions. :)
*Just a note;
How old is the cartridge/printer head unit?
I heard that the printer heads in the 4000s series only last about 2 years.

Thanks Tweeker:
No problem with cables, paper or print head as the test prints are OK. ( ctrl+p, print window, properties, control, test. test color)
"Printers folder:
There was an error writing to LPT1. (for the Cannon BJC 4400) There was a problem printing to the printer due to an unknown systems error. Restart Windows and try pringing again."
Whatever is on the screen that I want to print is not being picked up by whatever is supposed to pick it up, (the driver?) and sent to the printer. (I think that's how it works) There is no printer icon on the taskbar

Hmm...One other thing you can try is, go into the BIOS and change the par port mode to bi-directional - save & exit.
Go into device manager and remove the printer port and restart the system.
Should sort it out ..
Here is a link (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q128345) that might share some light on your issue.
Hope this helps, check back for more suggestions. :)

One more item to check. Make sure that whatever application you are trying to print from is pointing at the correct printer, if not the print command will just send the request out into la-la land. If this is the case, the test print will print just fine but nothing will ever get sent to the printer from application. (Just a thought)

Thanks Errolo:
1. A great evening with great Chilean wine.
2. Wish I could have shared some of it with the lovely "kind eyed" young woman at the top of the page.
3. This is where this all started, right? Now I remember!! How do I check and confirm that everything is going to "la-la-land"? I think you are right.
Of note: I can't get into print help as suggested by Tweaker in his posts. Interesting?? I am of the believe that this problem comes from the offices of "uncle Bill",ie, Microsoft Windows 98.
4. I'll take a look in the morning, bed time. Thanks.
