Hi guys,

Stumble upon this problem yesterday when I formated this old computer who had winME on it. Anyway, the emails was pretty important, had around 1000 in my inbox that I didnt want to loose so I moved all files under the Outlook express folder. All the files was *.dbx.

Then I installed win2k on the computer and started to put things on it. But when I came to importing my old emails I ran into some problems. I just moved my old inbox and files to my new outlook express folder and everything seemed to work out. But when I launched Outlook Express I saw that all of my old folders with emails was there but not my old inbox. It only had this message "welcome to outlook express 5".. I went back to the folder and looked the inbox file up and now it was around 37 KB instead of the 358MB that it was from the start.

I have tried multiplie solutions but I cant figure it out why it wont import my old inbox. Even if I go through OEs own Import/export and I point out where the file is located wont it import it because of some error, it says.

These emails are pretty important and I really want em back. Anyone who knows something about this, and how to fix it?

Regars,

Johan.

search your computer for all dbx files not just in that one folder.

Hm, that was odd. When search for *.dbx it only found that old inbox file which is on my desktop atm. Why dont it find the others?

The .dbx files are hidden files. Windows search won't find them until you unhide them.

I've found that OE doesn't like to import old .dbx files unless it is updated to the same point the old OE installation was. I'm not familiar with W2K but have you got all the Windows updates for it (some will affect OE) since the installation?

That could be the problem, im thinking of format the hdd again and try again, but now try to import the emails direct instead of using win update, I think I did that last time.. Crap. :\

If you're going to be formatting your computer, you need to export OE to a file, then import it into the new OE.

My OE cant export its emails by itself, thats why I did as I did. Is there a place where you can get hold of older versions of OE then?
