I posted a topic awhile back about not being able to open link, just a blank window opens. I was told to load a few .dll files and this did solve the problem. But now I am getting all kinds of about:blank windows, not with all links but with a few of them; many of the pop-up ads I receive are the same way, about:blank. How do I fix this problem?
IE6
Windows XP

I am running IE6 under a LAN at my school. I do not have AOL.

One example of my problem. I try to post a thread on another message board, on a different site, and an about:blank pop-up pops up; and that's it, it never loads. But all other links work, just some message board sites.

Might be worth a spyware check - you can get Adaware from the downloads section of this site :)

Thanks for the advice Steven,
but this still did not solve my problem, ahhhhhh. I don't know what in the world is going on, it may be the message board site, but it has been this way for a few days now. Any other ideas as to what could be wrong?
Thanks

May be worth asking on the other board if they've introduced popups recently?

Hi mdrymac - many sites which use popup ads have recently changed the method that they use to open popups. Instead of opening an ad window directly to an ad location, they open a new blank window at "about:blank" and then change the location of the ad window via javaScript. These popups were then able to bypass most older versions of popup stopper software.
If you are running recent versions of Norton Internet Security or other such software such Script Sentry etc, the javascript redirect is blocked. HTH. :)
