Did you know we cannot travel back in time (http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20070309/sc_livescience/youcanttravelbackintimescientistssay)? Must be a slow news day.
While the idea makes for great fiction, some scientists now say traveling to the past is impossible.

Wikipedia has some good articles and examples on the paradox of time travel
Here is one such method
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_paradox
It has links to the other main methods

Time travel might best be listed here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cognitive_biases). Last I checked, I was right here, right now. Yup, just reconfirmed that. Gonna have to assume the rest of you all are too.

Traveling through time is a physical and logical paradox, and we've known for years it can't be done. Time, however, is relative, and there's always some exception or loophole, or some way to produce the effects of time travel. Four words: Special Theory of Relativity.

I look at time travel this way, theories change as mans knowledge increase. Based on current knowledge, time travel is supposedly impossible, however, who knows what the future holds, theories may change tomorrow or 20 years from now making time travel possible.
Maybe that strange person you walked pass on the streets, in the mall, or even in church and never saw again may have been a traveler.

However.... If you took a rocket and exceded the speed of light, and continued like that into space, you could then look back with a telescope and SEE what the earth looked like a thousand years ago.
Although its fanciful, We have no material that can withstand going lightspeed, Gawd knows what would happen to a human going that fast, (LOL, Splat) And we don't have a propellent that can propel things that fast.

actually we do have a propellent that can go that fast, All you need is a few hydrogen bombs as fuel. Supposedly if you have the abliity to direct the blast and protect the space ship at the same time, it can go the speed of light. Its something I read years ago so I do not have a source.

I wonder if this new ceramic stuff NASA craped out can withstand speeds like that?

I doubt it.

If you believe in reincarnation, maybe some of us after we've died return to an earlier time in history. Maybe we already do that without remembering past lives, although some people appear to remember stuff under hypnosis; and maybe the ones that 'remember' being abducted by aliens are actually remembering parts of past lives in the future. :dizzy:
So you should be as good as you can be to everyone in this life cos you might be them in your next life. ;)

I don't really believe like that, but it does make a little sense.

If you can't make a meaningful reply to a thread of this nature then don't bother replying at all.

Travel into the future can't exist, as it hasn't happened yet. Unless that is you travelled back in time some time ago and forgot about it. :dizzy:

You don't have to travel at a faster-than-light velocity. You just have to arrive before the light does. Just take a few shortcuts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhole) along the way...
Travel into the future can't exist, as it hasn't happened yet. Unless that is you travelled back in time some time ago and forgot about it. :dizzy:That's what Stephen Hawking says at least:Time travel is not theoretically possible, for if it was they’d already be here telling us about it!However, as a scientific theory (which it was never meant to be), that thinking is flawed. It assumes all of a) the time traveler wanted to inform us of the possibility of time travel, b) the traveler had the means to inform us, c) time traveling was able to be controlled, and d) the time travelers thought it was worth coming back to tell us. For all we know, time travel will be discovered in the future, but all the scientists are crapping themselves at what might happen if they come back to tell us about it.
