Windows 2000 problem

I am having this problem recently. I cannot open task manager anymore, and I can't copy and paste. Also after a while when I reboot my computer my desktop disappears completely, leaving only my background. Even before it disappears I cannot move icons around. Neither can I restart the computer because it says I do not have permission to do so. I don't know what is the problem... Your help is greatly appreciated.

did you install anything or was anything updated to just prior to this problems

Not that I remember but I am going in safe mode and running a virus scan and it found a trojan on svhost.exe. So I think that is the problem. But after clearing the problem my computer still is not working properly...
