Download prompt problem...
Hey. I have a hewlett packard, and my windows versions is ME. I currently have compuserve as my ISP, but recently have come across a problem.
Every website that I go to on compuserve, I get a download prompt that pops up saying this : "You have chosen to download a file from this location." index.html from config.sa.aol.com Normally this sort of thing wouldn't bother me, however every website I go to it tries to download some sort of index. When I view web pages using Internet Explorer, I do not get this prompt, just using compuserve. I have also tried changing some preferences after this occurred, but to no avail. Does anyone know how to get rid of this annoying problem? I have tried lowering the security levels in internet tools, but to no avail. I am not sure what could have triggered this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Just a few more questions
Thanks a lot . That is definetly the problem.
I feel kind of stupid because I am not really sure how to solve the problem, even though the answer is right in front of me. I am not sure what microsoft management console is, or if I even have it on my computer. Do I need to download it to resolve this problem? Sorry for my lack of computer knowledge lol Greg |

I have the program thanks...
When I read the help page you gave me it sais 1. On the Proxy Server computer, open the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). 2. In the MMC, click the plus sign (+) next to the default Web site to expand the branch. 3. Right-click the Scripts folder, and then click Properties. I dont see the plus sign or a default website pop up when i open the program I am not really familiar with the program. I looked around but I am not sure how to get to the scripts folder to advance from there Sorry for inconvenience again Greg |

I don't think those instructions relate to this particular problem - unless you are using a proxy server, which most dial-up users aren't.
This is more likely to be that the associations are screwed up. This can sometimes be solved by downloading the file when it prompts you to, then locating it in Windows Explorer. Right Click it and select Open With (may need to be shift-right-click in some versions of Windows) and then select IEXPLORE or Internet Explorer from the list of programs.
