Hi all. Thank you for taking the time to look and possibly attempt an explanation for this.

My puter is making noises, not unlike a 'CD booting scratching' after its shut down. It does not always do that, and noises last anywhere from a few minutes to hours and hours on end, but ONLY after the computer is off.

I took the PSU out of the case and gave everything a good listen. It was very clear that the noises were coming from the mobo, from where all the peripherals get connected. I unplugged and replugged everything and that made no difference.

There is nothing visibly wrong with the way the puter performs and I checked for viruses, worms etc and it came up clean.

Any ideas please as to why and how to make it stop?

Thanks in advance.

This may be way off base, But could it possibly be a low battery warning.

Check the voltage?????

Thanks for trying but I don't think thats it. The noise does not sound like a warning chirp.

The closest anology I can think of is the sound of an old CD starting up. Kinda a mix between scratching, chirping and clicking. I thought for a while that it was the HD spinning but thats not it. The noises are definately coming from the back of the mobo where speakers, DSL, keyboard etc get plugged in.
