I have a 20" imac with 2.16GHz dual core and 1 GB ram with a 250 SATA HHd
This morning i tired to boot it up and everything worked until it got to the part where the login screen shows up but never does. I have read some other forums and help logs but the problem is still there. This is what i have tried. Flash PRAM disk verify and permisson verify and removing the startup items fonts. The computer however still boots in safe mode. I am not a big apple user but I would like to know more. Thanks for your help.

How long are you allowing the screen to sit before doing something?

On Boot a mac checks it system and performs some maintenance. This maintenance may simply be taking a few moments to complete.

in the normal boot i let it sit for about 2-4 minutes way longer than it should take. in the safe mode it takes about 2 minutes maybe a little longer.

I'd let it sit a bit longer. I've seen macs take 5-10 minutes to boot at times because the systems are so poorly maintained. A well maintained system should only take a minute or two though.

You might try booting from an OSX OS CD and running disk utility from there to repair permissions and also repair the disk. There may be issues with the disk itself.

you repaired the disk and permissions from a separate boot volume?

It really just sounds like a corrupt system, or user account. The fact that it boots in safe mode simply indicates you have some third party installations that are causing issues. There's no way to troubleshoot that via the internet and without seeing everything on the system.

You can try booting in safe mode and creating a new user account and seeing if that user works correctly.

You can also try AppleJack -- http://applejack.sourceforge.net/

Beyond these solutions, an archive and install of the OS would be my next suggestion.
