The computer I have has Windows 2000, and I am starting to run into this problem now. The computer will get to the Windows boot up screen, and after that, it flashes a very quick BSOD, and then reboots itself. It is doing this everytime I boot up now. Is this a hard drive problem? Thanks

How about Safe Mode (http://space.hostrocket.com/safe.mode/safe.mode.html), can you boot to that?

I cannot boot to safe mode. I ran a chkdsk /r on the recovery console, and it said the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems. Now is there anyway I can get some files off of this hard drive?

Nope.

The only thing left is platter recovery where they actually dismantle the drive and
take the disc out and deal with it. Usually runs about $5,000.00 and that's when
most users say "The data isn't that important".

Then they learn how valuable it is to back up. This is exactly why one backs up,
you can't trust a hard drive to store the only copy of data.
