Hello,
I'm new to the whole Torrent/p2p scene and a look at various sites has me confused already. The ones I've seen so far seem to charge a fee to subscribe to the site, is that always the case? Are there any sites that people would recommend as at the moment I don't know which ones are better than others.
Cheers for any help

What in particular are you looking for?
There are some decent - and legit - P2P sites, opensource that don't charge any fees to use.

Hi, I wasn't necessarily looking for anything in particular at the moment, I was just looking at the whole scene and feeling confused. I'll do some more digging around and see if I can work it all out. If p2p is off-limits on CTH I'll drop the whole topic. I don't want to rock the boat.

P2P software is not illegal in itself, it's how its used that makes it illegal. If you use it to download copyrighted material/songs/software, then it's illegal. Otherwise as Zip says, opensource isn't.

BitTorret in particular is a fabulous use of technology to distribute large files.
It's as acceptable to discuss here as FTP or Burning.
Unfortuntely, the majority of large files being distributed are not legally allowed to be shared, just as many files available on FTP servers or being burned are not legal either.
Our rules are quite clear - We will NOT help anyone we suspect of having obtained their software illegally.
