VPN/dsl issue

Ok, since AT&T are basically idiots, I'm taking this question to the computer gurus among you.

I have DSL, wireless router, all work fine, connect great. When I have to use a VPN put on by my work, I get in, get authorized, and within 2 minutes--tops--I get kicked off with an error message that says I've lost my connection.

Now, the kicker is, when I'm on the road, at hotels or wireless cafes, I can connect no problem, stay on as long as I need. My work people say they've checked everything, but based on all the info, it's something with my home connection. And someone just recently told me that SBC/AT &T block some ports that VPNs typically use. SBC was beyond useless.

Any thoughts? I could use the help.

There is so much that could be 'wrong'.

What VPN software are you using?
What make and model router? What firewall rules do you have setup @ the router?
What firewall?
What OS?

cmd /k ipconfig/all [use to start ipconfig from 'Run']
cmd /k ping <some website, like google or yahoo> [use to ping 'www.google.com' from 'Run']

What VPN software are you using? No clue, they installed it, and the trip would take me 3 hours to get there. I'm an independent contractor training end users on library management software, so I just tell them how to use it, no programming necessary.

What make and model router? belkin-g

What firewall rules do you have setup @ the router? I really just set the thing up out of the box, didn't have to do a thing to it. Where would I go to find that out?

What firewall? Standard windows firewalls, Norton. But I already tried disabling all of them, same problem.

What OS? Windows XP

Are you connected wirelessly to that router and do you have problems with the connection in general (ie needing to refresh websites alot and problems downloading large files etc)?

and do you have problems with the connection in general (ie needing to refresh websites alot and problems downloading large files etc)? Not generally. With SBC it comes and goes. Like right now, 9ish am on Sunday, I'm hopping, but occasionally I get slow periods, but I think they're traffic related.

Are you able to try the VPN while wired into your router? If so try it and let us know if you get the same problem.

Ok, I tried wiring my laptop into the wireless router, and I got the same problem. I can sign in to the VPN, get into Oracle, and while I'm working, after about 2 minutes, I get the same error message that my connection has been terminated.

I meant what VPN client software do you have running on your machine?
Have you tried connecting directly to your modem?

when you can't connect are you home or traveling? since its a work laptop, when you have trouble connecting are you in a hotel??

Cause hotels have firewalls and don't allow you to use your VPN access. they require you to use theirs. step outside the hotel and your probably good to go.

No, actually, I have NO trouble when I'm at hotels. It's when I'm at home I have the troubles. I still have to try connecting directly to my modem, which I'm going to do tonight.
