I'd be interested in hearing some reactions to this. I purchased a Logitech Harmony remote control, and needed to contact tech support. While on hold, a recorded message played repeatedly stating that while configuring your remote (online), it is important to disable your firewall and all security programs, including AV! Again, this is while you are online! Does anyone else find this as shocking as I do?

It may be that the online process requires access to your PC and also wants to run scripts on your PC.

As there are so many AV and Firewall programs available it may be quicker for them to tell you to disable them instead of giving instructions on how to allow the process to be completed.

I would have throught they would give examples for the major products and then a statement to check the documentation for other products.

I agree, Degsy. But it sure makes me feel nervous for all those poor people with limited computer knowledge who just respond with "Oh, okay!". If you've ever fiddled with one of these remotes, you would easily see how someone could spend HOURS setting it up, all the while with no firewall and no AV. I think it's bad policy, and in my mind, Logitech would be responsible if a customer's PC was attacked while they were doing this, because they didn't know better than to trust the software company, and follow their instructions.

send them an email about it. That's what customer service and public relations are for
