IE is integrated into the Windows system, which means that before it's even opened, a lot of its components are probably already loaded into memory (eg. the HTML parser). It's also hard-coded to use internal Windows functions, and streamlined to work better on the Windows system. Whereas third-party browsers like Firefox contain pretty much everything except a few parts of the graphical interface within their own application, and cannot rely on taking advantage of a single system, since they are designed to work cross-platform.
