Question Now you see it, now you don't

I'm having this problem getting on line. After I bring the computer out of standy, I can't get on line nor can I check my emal. I have to restart the machine and then everything works fine until it goes into standby again. I ran the program disk clean up and it removed a lot of unecessary files to free up disk space, could the program have removed some file I needed??

Thanks for the info AnnMarie. Problem is, this never happened before. Whenever the computer came out of standby, all programes worked fine. I think by running disk clean-up I cleaned out the temporary internet fiiles folder which, among other things, contains the MSN home page. But I would think the page would be replaced as soon as I used it again. I am thinking about downloading and re-installing IE7 to solve the problem but I don't want to cause any more problems. I'm open to suggestions. SP

Hi skypilot, if your connection was ok previously, I agree it should be now. How do you connect to the Internet (dialup, dsl etc)? Also do you have a firewall installed and if so, which one?

Hi AnnMarie, The internet connection is cable and the firewall installed is the microsoft windows firewall that came already installed when I bought the computer. I don't think the firewall is the problem though. I tried uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 which brought me back to version 6. Believe it or not the problem is no more. I can come out of standby and go online with no problem. The real problem I believe was a software conflict between IE and my HP scanner software. Since I can't change the software, I had to change the browser. Everything seems to work OK now but I haven't had time to re-install the scanner yet. Let's hope for the best. SP

That's good news skypilot and thanks for the update. If you decide to reinstall IE 7 at any stage in the future, you should be able to test your theory by trying Steps 17 to 20 here.

AnnMarie Thanks for all the info. If I should decide to go the route of IE7 I'll know where to find the answers. SP
