I was cleaning up and found my pda on a nite stand doing nothing but gethering dust. I do not remember the last time I used it. at one time, everyone thought the pda was the future, alot of people went out and purchased one.

I was wondering, how many members here have pdas and are you still using it?

I went to buy one once and realised how pointless they really were. Bought a couple of new rugby shirts and some Henry Westons Special Reserve instead so at least it didn't go to waste eh!:D

PDAs are just notebook wannabees. If there is one thing that drives me crazy
it's trying to type with a stylist or a cell phone. The one-digit-at-a-time thing
is so laborious.

Notebooks are portable and they are way more powerful and useful. Plus you
can put two hands on a notebook keyboard and run a *real* version of Windows.

I actually have 2, although I'm not sure if the first counts. The first one I got was in 7th grade, a Palm Zire (old black and white one). I later bought a Pocket PC - the Toshiba Genio e550G only to find out that it was supported by Audiovox (and not really supported). Then, a year later they sold their phone portion to some other company and support for my PDA was dropped completely. Also, WM 2003 came out 2 months after I got mine (WM 2002) and there was no upgrade option. I'm not too happy about either of those. :(

Still, they are nice for PIM (personal information management), keeping school notes/assignments, etc. There are also some pretty cool games out there.

Edit - didn't see Spider's post. Notebooks are better, but when I bought my PDA it was on clearance, and I did not nearly have enough money for a notebook. Many Pocket PCs have a "transcriber" where you can write full (and multiple) words at one time and it translates them. It isn't perfectly accurate, but with some configuration and use it works quite well, even on my aging PDA.

I feel the same about cell phones.

Screens are too small for anything but quick stuff. I'd want to watch a movie on a postage stamp
about as much as I want to eat dirt. Ain't gonna happen.

LOL, that's true. Cell phones are nice for calling in places where a landline phone is unavailable or inconvenient, that's about it. PDAs are nice for PIM and some games. I tried to write a paragraph for school on there and it took a long time, although there are many keyboards available.

I got one to make it easer to make notes on different things and meetings. It was very temperamental with my handwriting. Some days it would read it pretty good, but when it was something very important, it would not read it at all. I eventually gave up and did it the old fashion way, pen and paper.

Most likely, I will end up freecycle it so someone else have something sitting gathering dust.

I have one (Dell) and use mostly to keep my calender sync'd between work and home (and to have it with me). I also use it to manage my passwords, that is one feature I'd be so lost without.

I try now and then to take notes, but find its not worth it. My case has a place for note cards too and that is what I use for note taking.

Got one from ebay cheap.IPAQ
They thought the battery was bad,but they didn't
charge it properly.
Works fine.
More of a toy than anything else.

The battery on the ipaq can be tricky. I thought mine was bad several times. It takes patience, throwing it against the wall, few words here and there, and it will eventually work.

I have two. My old Zire(retired) and now my Treo/phone. I use it (Treo) all the time. I keep my rather complicated schedule it it and use it to write memos to myself that are usually employee screw up related. It is not a substitute for a laptop, but the laptop doesn't fit in my shirt pocket or a clip on my belt. I do sync to my computer. It serves as phone, PDA, simple handheld game (solitaire), MP3 player, Real Estate lockbox key and even as a camera when I forget my real camera. I guess I'm unique here as I actually like and use mine.
