Might be a dumb question (not sure)

This might be a dumb question, but im not sure. So here goes;

I recently had to buy a new tower becasue my old windows XP one broke (it was a Packard Bell, just so you know).
Anyway i bought a Vista. Now my speakers wont work because i still use my old monitor (i only bought the vista tower, and it is a home basic). It wont work because there is a wire i have to connect but there isnt a place for it....but there's a place for all the others.
What can i do? If i CAN do something that is. (without buying a new monitor).

EDIT: Please bear in mind im not the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to computers. But i do understand them enough to use them for things and im really good at gaming :)

It sounds like the speakers are attached to and part of the monitor.

I don't know how to get those speakers to work (hopefully someone will come along who does know) but I do know you can buy speakers for as little as $10 (U.S.); much cheaper than buying a new monitor.

The speakers might be the same as mine on my Packard Bell. They plug into the power supply on the back of the PC and then into the speaker socket at the back of the base unit.

I occasionally run Vista on my PC withot a hitch on the sound front. Is it with every application that you can't get sound e.g playing a CD, You Tube etc.

You may like to check your connections.

Speakers that are attached to or part of the monitor are usually
not amplified.
You will need to buy some amplified speakers and connect them
to the speaker out on the back of the computer.
