freeserve anytime disconnecting every 2min

Its so unpredictable. It can work really well with no problems for a month and then suddenly start disconnecting every 2 min. Ive phoned them a few times and im now convinced the problem isnt the modem or phoneline. Had a technician round who jus told me to ask freeserve. Ive tried different dial up numbers, increased the gain of phoneline and deleted cookies, temporary files but nothing helps.
Im wondering if the 'outlook express error' is causing this. Can problems with the identies registry key cause the connection to be dropped?

when i close 'outlook' by clicking the 'cross' in top right corner i sometimes(unpredictable again) get the error message:

msimn.exe-application error
the instruction at "0x77f536f9"referenced memory at "0x007f4e0c". The memory could not be "written"

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated

The outlook express issue won't be helping. Try updating it to a newer version or installing any service packs for it that may be available in Windows Update

Ive found these 'outlook express updates':

http://office.microsoft.com/download...ook&Version=95|97|98|2000|2002&Type=Update|Converter|Add-In|Assistant|Stationery|Document|Viewer|Template|A nti-Virus|Updates

(click on 'update list' after following this link)

Im not sure which one would be best though.

Is this outlook or outlook express?

If it's the Express version then you need different patches - they're part of the Internet Explorer updates at www.microsoft.com/ie

Hi KateB - Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are part of your OS. You can only uninstall updated versions. Use Windows Updates to update your OS (what OS do you have by the way?) and IE & OE versions. In IE, click on Tools > Windows Update. If you havent used this feature before, you could be there for quite a while but you may find that your PC runs much better afterwards. PS Do not download driver updates, just Critical Updates and any Recommended Updates for your OS that you think might be useful (its common sense really). You can also update IE and OE there.

There were some recent patches for IE and OE on the Windows Update site. Have you visited Windows Update yet?

If you have and you are still getting the error message, try repairing IE and OE. In XP, you do this by going to Start > Run and typing:

sfc /scannow

and then click OK.

Note that you may be prompted for the Windows XP CD so have it handy.

I've downloaded all the 'reccomended' updates and theres none in the critical update list. I also did the sfc /scannow repair thing but the problem's still there.

It also doesnt make any difference what dial up numbers i use:
147008089916001
147008089977001

theres another no. i cant remember 1470...........6080

Hi again Kate - you may have checked this but open OE and go to Tools > Options. Click on the Connections Tab and make sure that there is no check in the box that says "Hang up after Sending or Receiving" Another option you can try is to leave OE open while you are surfing but set it to check for new messages every 2 minutes.

I checked the OE options and there wasnt a tick in the 'Hang up after Sending or Receiving' box. Also ive set it to check for messages every 2min and left OE open while online. But still nothing's making any difference.
